Assistant Harvest Manager


Overview 

We are seeking a hard-working, committed, talented individual motivated by a career interest in sustainable agriculture to join our 2025 team as an Assistant Harvest Manager. One or more seasons of previous farming experience and Spanish language proficiency is required. 

Siena Farms’ Assistant Harvest Manager is a core member of the year-round management team for our 50-acre (non-certified) organic produce farm. Assistant Harvest Managers are integral parts of the team and serve two primary roles: personnel and team management, and the management of harvest, wash-up, packing, and distribution of farm products. They will report to and be supervised by the Harvest Managers, Business Manager, and Owner. 

Primary responsibilities of our Assistant Harvest Managers include but are not limited to the planning, management, and execution of the following.

Harvest Management

  • Assist in the management of harvests, washup and other post-harvest handling activities for CSA, retail, and wholesale
  • Assist in the management of CSA packs and distribution, in close coordination with the office and distribution teams
  • Assist in the management of retail harvests and packs, in close coordination with the retail team
  • Assist in the management of wholesale orders, harvests, and packs, as well as wholesale account management and invoicing in close coordination with the distribution team
  • Training and oversight of field crew and other farm crew members involved with harvest activities on any given day

Team Management and Hiring

  • Collaborate on the hiring and onboarding of field crew and other farm staff
  • Act as the main point of contact for field crew members to address questions, concerns, and provide feedback.
  • Support the training and development of field crew members, including tracking skill development and providing guidance on task execution.
  • Leading of regular check-ins with farm staff during the season
  • Spanish language proficiency is essential for effectively managing the team and completing related tasks

Crop Production

  • Participation in manual field work such as trellising, pruning, fencing, hand-weeding, hoeing, and irrigation, as well as greenhouse work; help Team Production train and lead seasonal farm staff into these tasks as needed.

General Farm Management

  • Participation in seasonal planning meetings to develop annual crop plans and field plans; staffing, equipment, and marketing plans; and other business development strategies
  • Participation in regular manager meetings year-round, as well as regular field tours during the season
  • Help communicate with production managers to coordinate workflow between harvest priorities and production priorities each day.
  • Assist in general farm upkeep, cleanliness, workplace safety, and food safety
  • Assisting with repair and maintenance of equipment, buildings, and other infrastructure as needed
  • Participation in farm events such as our Community Sponsored Farm Share Dinner and our annual Old-Fashioned Carrot Pull
  • Participation and leadership in team-building events for farm staff

Schedule

Our Assistant Harvest Manager position is considered a full-time, year-round position, averaging 40 hours/week spread over 4 days per week in the “cold months” (December through March), and averaging 50 hours / week spread over 5 days in the “warm months” (April through November).

Core schedule during December through March is 7am – 5pm four weekdays per week (either M-H or T-F). Core schedule during April and May is Monday through Friday, 7am – 5pm. Core schedule June through November includes 5 days a week from 7am – 5pm, with either a “Friday/Saturday” weekend, or a “Sunday/Monday” weekend. One paid hour of lunch break per day is allotted to all farm staff on any given work day. Please see employee handbook for more details on sick day and other HR policies.
